Nature Foundation conducts  water quality tests in Great Bay

Water quality sample taken in Great Bay.

PHILIPSBURG--Nature Foundation tested water quality at Great Bay Beach on Tuesday after a passing tropical wave dumped heavy rains on the island Monday.

The tests need to sit for at least 24 hours to allow for the results to be observed. The Foundation will communicate test results as soon as they are available.

As a part of the response to the heavy rainfall, water from the Great Salt Pond was allowed to flow into Great Bay. “It is important after these heavy rain events that water quality is checked to see if there is no contamination in swimming areas. Considering the water quality of the Great Salt Pond, we thought it prudent to take a water sample so that we can give recommendations on any concerns which may exist after Monday’s heavy rainfall,” said Nature Foundation Manager Tadzio Bervoets.
