Mother of dead baby speaks out

PHILIPSBURG--Fay van der Sar, the mother of Alex Hodge who died due to dog bites last weekend, is speaking out against allegations made against her and her family.

The father filed an official complaint of negligence with police and wanted his child’s mother and grandparents to be held responsible for Alex’s death.

According to the mother, the father only visited Alex twice in his life.

“I know that he spoke out of anger and frustration, but my family never made any promises to him or his mother that we would keep the dog away from Alex. We slowly introduced Loki to Alex and they were getting along just fine,” said Fay in a recent interview.

John Hodge also alleged that the dog always had been violent and he had been afraid of the dog for a long time.

Fay said, “He hardly came over at the house. This is the reason why the dog did not get used to him, but we had the dog for seven years. I also wanted to clear up the allegation that the dog had bitten me before. There was a fight between two dogs and I got in between and Loki accidently bit me, but it was not on purpose.”

She said the day her son died had been a very sad day and she was still mourning the loss of her beloved Alex. The baby’s funeral was held on Friday and the dog was put to sleep the day after the incident occurred.
