Meeting on animals   

 

Management of the Inspectorate of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications TEATT, representatives of Section Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries recently met representatives of veterinary clinics – St. Maarten Veterinary Clinic, The Animal Hospital of St. Maarten, and the Animal Care Clinic. Discussed were animal welfare and protection of the country, and preparedness interventions for animals in the event of natural and man-made disasters.

The latter based on Article 14 of the Organisation Decree of the ministry and is a requirement of the ministry of Disaster Preparedness Plan. Other issues discussed were licensing and registration of veterinarians, stray animals, microchipping, guidelines for importation of animals, disaster preparedness plan for veterinarians, and veterinarian disease surveillance reporting. It was decided that the Inspectorate and clinics will meet quarterly with the next meeting set for May 8.
