Medical assessment for govt. workers on long sick leave

PHILIPSBURG--The Department of Personnel and Organisation has executed an assessment within six ministries, of persons who frequently report sick and are on leave due to illness for an extended period and a company will be contracted to execute medical reassessment of these workers.

Prime Minister (PM) Leona Romeo-Marlin said on Monday that this medical reassessment will determine whether persons can reintegrate into the civil service within a short period or are deemed medically unfit to continue working. In the event a person is medically unfit, he or she will qualify for a disability pension.

The PM provided the information to Members of Parliament (MPs) on Monday during the parliamentary debate on the draft 2019 budget on Monday. She said this is one of the activities in which her ministry will be engaged this year.

She was the first minister to address MPs during the meeting.
