Man knocked off scooter

PHILIPSBURG--A man was knocked off his scooter on W.J.A. Nisbeth Road in the vicinity of office supplies store Office World while overtaking a car Tuesday morning.

The car was driving in front of the scooter, travelling toward Bush Road. The scooter driver, who was travelling in the same direction as the car, attempted to overtake the car on the left side at the same time as the driver of the car was making a left turn into a parking space in front of Office World. The car then collided with the overtaking scooter.

The force of the collision knocked the scooter driver onto the pavement. He was wearing a helmet, according to police.

The scooter driver was treated at the scene by personnel of the Ambulance Department and was later taken to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for further medical attention. His injuries are said to be minor.
