Man found dead in South Reward, woman shot in leg during argument

DUTCH QUARTER--A young lady was shot in the leg on Thursday evening after intervening during a fight between a family member and a man known as “Ice Man” who shot the woman in Dutch Quarter. According to unconfirmed reports Ice Man then fled to South Reward where he was later found dead behind a truck in the bushes near Carrot Road.

Details regarding the incidents are sketchy, however, The Daily Herald understands that the (now deceased) man was arguing with his girlfriend, and when it got physical, the bystander jumped in the middle of the quarrelling couple and was shot by the man who was waving a fire-arm at the time.  page8a200

Police are still putting witnesses’ statements together in an attempt to understand what transpired. Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson, in an invited comment said: “Police received word around 8:30pm that there was a fight between the man and his girlfriend in Dutch Quarter. The man shot one of the family members in her leg and drove off from the scene. The woman was rushed by ambulance to the St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.”

The woman is a nurse who works at the hospital according to reports. She was wearing her uniform at the time she was admitted to SMMC for treatment.

Police were contacted at approximately 9:00pm and informed of a man in South Reward who “appeared not to be moving.” Police and Ambulance officials rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of the man who had still not been officially identified up to press time, according to Henson last night.

The mystery surrounding the death of this man is due to no apparent signs of foul play that led to his sudden passing. Residents of South Reward flocked to the scene while Police cordoned off the area where the body laid and waited for forensic investigators to comb the scene.

Police are requesting witnesses to come forward and assist them in solving the case as soon as possible.
