PHILIPSBURG--The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) recovered several licence plates and various tools after a man fled from officers during a routine control on Front Street on Tuesday. Officers of the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) were conducting the control in Philipsburg on August 25 when they encountered a man carrying a backpack.
As officers approached the man to conduct a check, he fled on foot, leaving the backpack behind. Officers inspected the abandoned backpack and found several licence plates and various tools inside. The items were confiscated and are being examined as part of an ongoing investigation into their origin.
KPSM is asking residents who have recently lost or had licence plates stolen to report the matter to the nearest police station. Owners are encouraged to provide the relevant information so investigators can determine whether any of the recovered plates belong to them.
Police are also warning vendors and businesses to exercise caution when purchasing licence plates or other vehicle-related items from unknown individuals. KPSM reminded the public that purchasing stolen property can have legal consequences and urged businesses to verify the origin of vehicle-related items before completing a transaction.
Anyone who may have information about the identity of the suspect, witnessed the incident or has information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the KPSM Detective Department or visit the police station in Philipsburg. Information can also be provided by calling 542-2222.
