Impact on neighbours

People gathered at Plasa Brion on Monday evening (photo) to support Curaçao’s use as hub for humanitarian aid to neighbouring Venezuela.

On Tuesday morning there was also a pacific demonstration against the idea of the labour union umbrella entities “Solidaridat Sindikal” and CGTC. They marched to the Parliament at Wilhelmina Park pending a public debate regarding developments in the troubled South American nation and their possible impact on the Dutch Caribbean country. However, Chairman William opened and immediately adjourned the plenary session on advice of the police, as there were no officers available to maintain order considering the crowd present. The government employee unions had their own, unrelated meeting during working hours. Later Tuesday embattled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro closed the border with the so-called ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao).
