Holi celebrations in Emilio Wilson Park.

CUL DE SAC--St. Maarten Hindu Organisation will host its annual Holi celebration in Emilio Wilson Historical and Cultural Park on Sunday, March 24, from 11:00am to 5:00pm.

Holi celebrates the coming of spring and the return of colours to the earth. Celebrants douse each other with coloured powder and water to mark the event.

Holi was officially celebrated by Hindus on Thursday, March 21, with prayers and celebrations. The public event was set for the weekend to better accommodate attendance by families and friends.

Vegetarian snacks and drinks will be on sale at the event.

Holi is an ancient Hindu spring festival originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is popularly known as the Indian “festival of spring”, the “festival of colours”, or the “festival of love”. It signifies the end of winter, the arrival of spring, the blossoming of love, and for many is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships.
