MARIGOT--A 76-year-old man was pronounced dead following a head-on collision between two French-side registered vehicles on the Bellevue RN7, close to the Cole Bay border monument at around 3:30pm Thursday.
On arrival at the accident scene, the French-side Fire Brigade (sapeurs-pompiers) found three victims of a high-speed collision. The 76-year-old man was in cardiac arrest. Despite resuscitation attempts by the emergency services, he was pronounced dead by the doctor from Structure Mobiles d’Urgence et de Reanimation (SMUR).
The other two victims, two young women who were conscious but suffering from multiple injuries, were treated by the emergency services and given medical care at the scene before being transported to the hospital.
The response deployed by Service Territorial d' Incendie et de Secours (STIS 978) comprised nine firefighters, divided between two emergency and victim assistance vehicles, a road rescue vehicle and a command vehicle.
Also present assisting at the scene were: the National Gendarmerie, the Territorial Police, Dutch side KPSM and paramedics from SMUR. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
