GEBE signs MOU with union to establish labour committee

PHILIPSBURG--Utilities Company GEBE on Thursday, November 24, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with St. Maarten Communications Union (SMCU) to establish the company’s Labour Management Committee.

The committee will consist of representatives of management and employees and will be responsible for assisting management in creating and stimulating an improved work environment for staffers.

The committee’s main mission will be to conduct research and provide recommendations on personnel and operational related issues that might hamper the organisation’s vision and its strategic goals.

“By taking a closer look and reporting its findings to management, the committee will be able to help solve many issues before they become friction, reason of frustration, or hazardous situations,” GEBE said on Sunday.

GEBE said SMCU Secretary Sherman Serastis was “elated” with the fact that GEBE showed its willingness to be the first government-owned company, with SMCU representation, to take the initiative to sign “such an important joint cooperation” agreement.

GEBE’s management team comprising Chief Executive Officer Kenrick Chittick, Chief Operations Officer Veronica Jansen-Webster and Chief Financial Officer Iris Arrindell were present at the signing “showing their full support and commitment to this approach.

“This is another milestone for NV GEBE, showing its commitment in creating a healthier, safer and efficient work environment, by acknowledging the importance of its employees and honouring them with this form of active and more direct participation in the betterment of NV GEBE,” the company said.
