Gang blocks road in Concordia, some minor damage to vehicles

MARIGOT--At least five Gendarme patrols were dispatched to quell a disturbance in Concordia on Saturday around 8:00pm when a gang of some 10-20 youths blocked the road where the new Media Library and Territorial Archives is located by throwing objects into the road and placing barricades.

Capitaine Emmanuel Maignan indicated it appeared to be a significant event but when Gendarmes arrived on the scene the crowd had quickly vanished and no arrests were made.

“We think this is the first time something like this has happened,” he said adding there didn’t appear to be a motive. “It appears it was done for fun, to simulate a riot, and it was being filmed on cell phones.”

A few parked vehicles received minor damages but the type of damages had not yet been ascertained.

In other news Maignan disclosed that all four suspects responsible for the counterfeit money case that saw false US dollar bills produced to purchase goods at at least ten businesses have been arrested. One individual, said to be the one who printed the money, was transferred to Guadeloupe on Friday to appear before the judge, while the other three accomplices have been summoned to court at the end of October.
