SUCKER GARDEN--One of two new pumps for the Sucker Garden Pump Station has arrived in St. Maarten and is currently being installed, with testing expected to begin within the next two weeks, Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) Patrice Gumbs announced on Wednesday.

The Minister said the update follows an announcement made two weeks ago regarding the replacement pumps.

According to Gumbs, the second pump is scheduled to arrive at the end of July and will be installed on Pond Island in the area known as the VROMI Yard. Installation of that pump is expected to be completed by the end of August.

The Minister said the Ministry remains on schedule to have both pumps fully operational before the peak of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. The Minister made the remarks during the live Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday.
