SIMPSONBAY--St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) will host its third annual Causeway Jump Up on Saturday. The event will be the first official event of the 2016 Carnival season. The bands performing are: No Limit, Xplosion, Strike Up, 4M HD, Mix Master Pauly, Presidente Dj, Mr. O-ezy and TG Band with Dj King Kembe.
TelCell Road to Carnival team announced this week that the event would once again feature stops at some of the island’s favourite hotspots along with the annual Causeway Jump-Up and after-party at Soggy Dollar bar, Around Town Jump-Up and after-party at Cactus Diner Bar and a big party jam at Walter Plantz Square on Front Street to wind up the pre-Carnival warm-ups.
SCDF and its main sponsor TelEm will also host the first of four Road To Carnival (RTC) parties. TelEm’s RTC will be held at Soggy Dollar Bar. Doors will open while the jump-up is underway, with the party continuing after the jump-up.
The Causeway Jump-Up will begin at 8:00pm at Kim Sha Beach. It will then move down the Simpson Bay stretch, over the Causeway, through Cole Bay via Union Road and Welfare Road and finally end at Kim Sha again. The police force has also released traffic diversion information. During the jump-up side streets/roads on the routes announced will be temporarily closed off and traffic will be diverted until the jump-up arrives at its final destination. All drivers should take notice of this information to avoid any unnecessary delays or inconveniences.
Public relations officer of SCDF Alston Laurens said: “The causeway jump up is like none other in the Caribbean. We are being very innovative and we invite our neighbours from surrounding islands to come and experience this jump up. The causeway is considered a landmark and this event allows revellers to jump up in grand style over the Simpson Bay Bridge. Our brothers and sisters of the French side are also invited to come and start the carnival season with us.”
"We are excited to finally get the first event of the Carnival season underway. A lot of planning has taken place and March features a few pre-Carnival events. The Causeway jam followed by a party is a great way to 'Celebrate Life' as our slogan suggests,” said Carnival Marketing Director Rolando Brison.
