Dutch royal couple in Curaçao for Flag Day

WILLEMSTAD--As announced earlier, King Willem Alexander and Queen Máxima visited Curaçao to celebrate National Anthem and Flag Day.
The country celebrates the public holiday every July 2. That’s when their own flag with a deep blue background, bright yellow stripe and two white stars was first raised.

This year was extra special because for the first time the current royal couple attended the official ceremony. It had just rained the moment they stepped out of the plane and were greeted by Governor Lucille George-Wout.
The king and queen then went to the government seat in Fort Amsterdam and were met by over 100 uniformed youngsters from Curaçao. They were accompanied on the trip by State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops.
