Drugs found at navy base

WILLEMSTAD--A batch of cocaine was seized during a criminal search at the Dutch naval base Parera in Curaçao on Friday.

The cocaine was in a container ready to be transported to the Netherlands. There were personal equipment goods in the shipment.

The search was conducted by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (military police) under the leadership of the local Prosecutor’s Office. The Dutch Defence Ministry provided the necessary cooperation during the operation.

The cocaine was destined for Schaarsbergen, the Netherlands. The airmobile brigade stationed on the island is based there.

The container contained personal items from the 30th rotation in the Dutch Caribbean. The search was based on an investigation by the prosecution.

Authorities did not make any further statements about the quantity of drugs or other details. No arrests have yet been made.
