MIDDLE REGION--A man believed to be Roberto Gumbs was gunned down next to his home in a local grocery store on Middle Region Road near Gumbs Drive on Monday night close to 9:00pm.
Several shots were heard in the neighbourhood, causing immediate panic in the area. The victim fell to the ground and a blue Hyundai I20 drove off at high speed from the scene.
Police are tight-lipped about the investigation, but according to unconfirmed reports, nine shell casings were found in the area. It also is reported that Gumbs came out of prison four months ago on a robbery charge. He is well known in the Middle Region community and family members at the scene repeatedly shouted his name “Roberto” in tears and in disbelief at what had occurred.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting and cordoned off the area for forensic investigators to come in to look for evidence and start their investigation.
Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson confirmed the victim’s death, but refused to give his identity.
“One man is dead and we are trying to find out what took place. We are encouraging witnesses to come forward and talk with our investigators to solve this case as quickly as possible. Anybody that may have seen anything, please contact the police as soon as possible,” Henson stated.
