RCN factsheet

SABA/ST. EUSTATIUS--Victims of violent crimes committed in Bonaire, St. Eustatius or Saba are eligible for a one-off payment from the Compensation Fund “Schadefonds” as of April 1, 2019.

In total, 112,406 euros (US $121,146) were paid out to 28 applicants, who received an average amount of 4,015 euros ($4,327) per person.

In total, 53 requests for compensation were submitted last year. Whereas 28 applications have already been allocated, 22 requests are still pending. Three requests were rejected as they did not meet the requirements for compensation, the National Department Caribbean Netherlands RCN stated on its website.

“With the compensation, the Schadefonds, on behalf of society and commissioned by the government, recognises the injustice that has been done to the victims. This way, Schadefonds contributes to restoring trust and gives justice to the victims and their relatives,” RCN said Thursday.
