Calamity training

Royal Dutch Marines arrived at St. Eustatius’ F.D. Roosevelt Airport onboard a Coast Guard aircraft on Wednesday.

The marines are on the island for the annual Hurricane Exercise Hurex set for June 19-26. A platoon of marines is also to arrive on today, Thursday, onboard a sea vessel. Hurex activities will see marines together with personnel from the fire, police and medical departments, as well as other emergency and disaster personnel, undergo disaster response scenarios that may occur in a tropical storm or hurricane strike. In addition to Hurex activities, the marines climb The Quill as a method to get to know the layout of the island.
