BPW Annual Candle Lighting ceremony held on Saturday

BPW held its Candle Lighting ceremony in the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday.

 

MARIGOT--Business and Professional Women (BPW) Concordia St. Martin held its annual Candle Lighting ceremony on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Chamber of Commerce in Concordia, Marigot.

The event was attended by two invited keynote speakers; Member of Dutch-side Parliament and Leader of the National Alliance (NA) Silveria Jacobs and President of the French-side Chamber of Commerce Angèle Dormoy.

Both were invited to speak on BPW Concordia’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDG) during the ceremony. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 10 years. In order for these goals to be attained, everyone needs to do their part – governments, the private sector, civil society and the population.

Silveria Jacobs indicated associations should present their projects to government and she will be very open to assist in making these projects become a reality. She also emphasized her passion to reduce the use of plastic.

Angèle Dormoy, who leads a campaign to use less paper, talked of the Chamber of Commerce in St. Martin going completely digital.

The Candle Lighting Committee was chaired by Natasha Ortega. She thanked the President of BPW Concordia Kathia Magdeline, the entire BPW Concordia board, all invited guests and the two keynote speakers, members and everyone who made the event a success. She looked forward to seeing everyone again next year.

BPW Concordia under the leadership of Kathia Magdeline has different projects in the planning for the upcoming three years that will contribute to a more sustainable future for St. Martin/ St. Maarten.
