Boxing Day burglars stock up on cash, alcohol and phones

CAY HILL--Burglars managed to enter Le Grand Marché on Bush Road through the roof on Saturday morning. The management and workers were stunned when they opened the store and saw signs of forced entry. The police were contacted immediately.

The burglars got away with close to US $30,000 and took all of the cell phones from Tech Hub, an electronics store located within Le Grand Marché.

Detectives arrived on the scene close to 9:00am and started their investigation. After the all clear was given, management decided to open the supermarket to customers after 10:30am. Most shoppers had no idea what had transpired hours before.

Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said, “Once inside, the alarm was disabled and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken along with a large quantity of alcohol and cellular telephones. The Forensic Department was on the scene collecting evidence.”

A string of armed robberies took place last week, one at a Pointe Blanche grocery on Tuesday and another on Wednesday when three men, one of them armed with a gun, robbed Dollar Store on L.B. Scott Road at 1:45pm. The robbers threatened the owner with the gun, took money from the cash register and demanded that two customers hand over their bags with their belongings. They managed to escape in the direction of the cricket field on L.B. Scott Road.

The police are asking anyone in the community who may have any information regarding these robberies that could lead in the arrest of the suspects involved to contact the Police Force via its tip line 9300 or 542-2222 exts. 204, 205 or 216.
