Body found floating in swimming pool suspected to be missing man

Didier Pegard has been reported missing since Saturday, October 19.

MARIGOT—Commandant Stéphan Basso confirmed the lifeless body of a man found floating in the pool of a villa in Oyster Pond on Wednesday morning, may well be that of Didier Pegard who was reported missing on the French side since Saturday, October 19.

The body was found by a neighbour at the apparently unoccupied villa. Since Saturday an intensive ground and air search using a drone had been launched by the Gendarmerie to no avail.

Friends and neighbours of the missing man had also been searching the Oyster Pond area in groups each day but without any luck.  His car however was reported as found abandoned on the main road with keys inside.

The Gendarmerie indicated that there was a strong indication that Pegard (57), a resident of Oyster Pond, wanted to take his own life after he had posted messages to that effect on social media which promoted the urgent appeal to find him.

“We don’t have a positive identification of the body yet after four days in the water but there will be an autopsy this Friday to determine the cause of death,” Basso added.
