The Run for Fun Cruise

The Run for Fun Cruise

If you spotted some visitors dressed as Spiderman and Wonder Woman on the Boardwalk on Friday, February 27, you were not hallucinating. This year’s annual Run for Fun Cruise opted to go with a superhero theme, creating a colourful spectacle for runners, locals and visitors alike.

The objective of this sporty cruise, which hosted its first voyage in 2016, is to complete a 5- to 10-kilometre run on each island-stop, bringing gifts and donations for local organizations along the way. The host for this year’s 5K Run for Fun on the Boardwalk in Philipsburg was Tri-Sport, which has been working in the cruise ship industry since 1996.

The runners completed two laps of the Boardwalk and were treated to refreshments and fruit along the way before finishing at the Taloula Mango’s Restaurant at St. Rose Arcade, after which prizes were awarded for the best costumes. The gifts and donations collected will be distributed to various organizations, such as the Red Cross, with the help of the Island Gems Charity Foundation.

The next Run for Fun cruise will take place in July on the Danube River in Europe.
