The Harmony in Duet piano concert, there’s nothing quite like it

The unique musical experience of live opera will once again bring magic to St. Maarten, with the Harmony in Duet piano concert, presented by Classical Delight. A night of opera, marked by masterful artistry in piano and vocals from the first spark to the final bow, offers a musical experience like no other. There’s nothing quite like it.

After a few years’ hiatus, Classical Delight is looking forward to welcoming classical music enthusiasts back for a fantastic experience, and hopes to introduce even more to this immersive, world renowned, and beautiful musical art form.

St. Maarten’s own vocalist La-Vaune Henry and pianist Elaine Walters will be joined by visiting musicians from the United States: pianists Chun-Wei & Shane Schag and tenor Alex Richardson.

The concert series started nearly two decades ago by founding members Bernadine van Veen, Roger Snow (the late co-founder of The Daily Herald), Renier Heere, Peter Scherzinger, Liesbeth Halbertsma, and five fellow aficionados of the arts – in an effort to promote not just culture and enjoyment, but music education. Van Veen at the time headed Adante music school on the island, and sought to upgrade the development of the students, exposing them to a new and dynamic level of musical artistry.

Today, the foundation’s legacy continues, with youth outreach and music education remaining central to Classical Delight’s goals. More than 200 invited students will experience first-hand the magic of the opera for free. Children/students will also benefit from discounted tickets on the night of the concert.

Carried forward by Van Veen, Dr. van der Waag, and Hilda Guevara, the foundation looks forward to delighting and inspiring lovers of music, and stirring excitement and appreciation of the art which continually brings new life to beloved classics. An experience to savour alongside fellow art lovers – one that you don’t have the opportunity to experience every day.

Harmony in Duet starts at 8:00pm sharp this coming Thursday, May 23, at the Belair Community Center. Tickets cost US $30 for adults, $15 for children/students, and are available for purchase at both Van Dorp locations, NIA (National Institute of Arts) in the John Larmonie Center, and from Classical Delight board members – call +1 721 520-1030; +1 721 526-2091, or +1 721 520-8444.
