Three dedicated organizations on St. Maarten have joined forces to remind women facing breast cancer that they never have to walk the journey alone. Positive Foundation, Elektralytes and Still Beautiful Foundation have come together to create a safe and welcoming support group for breast cancer survivors and women currently undergoing treatment.
Each organization brings its own strength to the collaboration: Positive Foundation contributes years of awareness-building, education and community outreach; Elektralytes brings energy, passion and a determination to keep fighting; and Still Beautiful Foundation offers hope, resilience and the power of lived experience.
At the heart of the group is a simple but deeply important message: Breast cancer is not a death sentence.
Still Beautiful Foundation’s motto – Before, During and Beyond – captures the spirit of the initiative. It reminds every woman that she is still beautiful before diagnosis, during treatment and beyond her cancer journey.
The organizations recognized that what was missing in the community was a dedicated space where women could gather, speak openly, share experiences and receive trustworthy information. Through the monthly meetings, participants are able to encourage one another, ask questions and draw strength from women who truly understand what they are going through.
Each gathering is shaped around the needs and interests of the group. Professionals and community members are invited to speak on topics including healthy living, mental and emotional wellness, treatment options, insurance and financial guidance, personal reflection and healing. The goal is to make every meeting practical, meaningful and supportive.
And the need does not begin and end with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Breast cancer doesn’t wait until October” is the message the organizations want the wider community to understand. Women and families face the realities of the disease throughout the year, and consistent support provides encouragement, information and hope whenever it is needed.
The response has already been overwhelmingly positive. Attendance continues to grow, and the group is beginning to outgrow its current meeting space – a clear sign that this kind of support is both needed and valued.
Looking ahead, the organizations hope the group will continue making a lasting difference for generations of women. They also invite the community to stand with them by attending awareness events, volunteering, sharing information, supporting fundraising efforts, building partnerships or simply reaching out to someone who may need encouragement – because no one should face breast cancer alone and every act of kindness, care and support makes a difference.
