Freegan’s Saturday yard sales!
If you’re looking for a reason to get out of the house on a Saturday morning, this is it. Each Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm, the Freegan Food Foundation is hosting its weekly Yard Sale Bash. It’s way more than just thrifty shopping. Think free food, community, art, surprise treasures, good music, great vibes, and a whole lot of heart. It’s the most feel-good way to spend your weekend. And even better? You’re helping keep a vital community food bank alive.
Yep, this isn’t just about second-hand steals, there are fabulous finds such as vintage clothes, home goods, funky accessories, three books for only $1 – you name it! This is also a call to action, as the Freegan Food Foundation is facing a serious challenge with the sudden loss of a major sponsor due to international trade tariffs, and they now need the island’s support to keep food on tables – literally.
For years, the foundation’s Freegan Food Market has been a beacon of hope for families in need, offering a unique client-choice food bank that allows people to shop with dignity. They also provide personal coaching and empowerment programs that help families get back on their feet for good. But now, with funding in jeopardy, they’re leaning on the community to step up.
So how can you help? First, you can spread the word, but also shop, snack, and show up this Saturday! Bring your reusable bags and your best bargain-hunting skills. Every dollar you spend goes directly to keeping the shelves stocked and the coaching going as well as keeping hope alive. Everyone is invited, especially those who love a good cause and a better deal – this is your chance to make a difference, one yard sale at a time.
“We’re not just feeding people,” says Joost de Jong, Managing Director of the Freegan Food Foundation. “We’re helping them rebuild their lives. But we can’t do it without you.”
Freegan Food Foundation in Philipsburg is open through the regular week from 10:00am to 12:30pm and from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Their Yard Sale event is every Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Bring your bag and a smile and show your support!
