Motorworld breaks new ground
as exclusive Chery distributor
COLE BAY--The buzz, anticipation and ambiance of a Motorworld launch is an extravaganza the population has come to expect. Last Friday’s Chery launch and test drive, with a surprise carnival parade, was no exception, and took the show to a new level of excitement.
Scores of guests, including Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina and Collectivité President Louis Mussington, inspected the six SUV models on display with Motorworld’s employees on hand to explain the features. Many signed up for a test drive.
Chery is China’s number one and largest automobile exporter for 22 years in a row, and for the last three consecutive years rated the highest quality Chinese brand. The automaker sets a benchmark for reliability by offering a 7-year 200,000km bumper-to-bumper warranty and an unmatched 10-year /1-million km engine warranty.
“I have spent the last eight years trying to bring Chery here, and finally succeeded,” said Motorworld Group Chairman, Tariq Amjad. “Changan and Chery are state-owned by the Chinese government, whereas other Chinese brands are privately owned. You don’t get to be number one if your quality is not good. It’s why I went after these brands because you know the Chinese government would not let them fail.”
Aside from the cars, Motorworld has scored a major coup with its appointment as the Chery regional distributor for 24 Caribbean islands. In the past two months, Motorworld has been hosting the islands that wanted to test drive the vehicles.
“Motorworld has expanded at a rapid rate,” Amjad adds. “It brings me a lot of pride and I’m very proud of my team. I always wanted to do what my dad did by spreading NAGICO around the Caribbean, and now I’m spreading the automotive business around the Caribbean. In the last two years, we have set up around 18 dealerships in the Caribbean. It’s going extremely well.”
Chery has two lines, Sedans called Arrizzo and SUVs, called TIGGO (TIG for Tiger and Go for mobility). The TIGGO range starts from $17,500 and continues up to $39,000, the latter a special introductory price for the TIGGO 9. The lineup has one electric car – the self-charging TIGGO 4 Hybrid and one pick-up.
“I decided to bring only the TIGGO line of SUVs because that’s what people want, and I wanted to make sure that I have a huge parts-supply in stock. Chery’s suspension is amazing, and you notice that in the TIGGO 8 and TIGGO 9. It beats anything else on the market. The screens used in the Chery are Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processors, and they are super responsive, fast, and very high resolution.”
An interesting feature about the warranty is that it is transferable, meaning if you don’t want the car anymore, you can sell it and give someone a 5-year warranty. Thus, the resale value of the car is much higher. The cars also have no cables – everything is wireless.
