Jazz and Pop with an ocean view

This Saturday, September 30, music lovers will enjoy the beautiful sunset and the sweet sounds of jazz and pop at the newly renovated Seaview Pool-Bar and Restaurant in Philipsburg. Here, talented singer Michellee will be joined by singer Rubia and the Focus Band for a musical night from 5:00 to 9:00pm.

Famous saxophone player Connis Vanterpool and iconic singers Michellee and Rubia will perform live from 5:00pm, accompanied by the Focus Band with Connor on the keyboards, Kirby Louis Jeune on the drums and LightShine on the bass. Host of this evening full of jazz, Connis encourages everyone to “tell a friend and bring a friend.”

One of St. Maarten’s most talented musicians, Connis is a graduate of Berklee College of Music. The saxophone player, who started his music career in 1992 and interned at various studios – including Crescent Moon, South Beach Studios and International Sound in Miami, Florida – currently plays at various public venues on St. Maarten as well as at private events.

Playing with him this Saturday is singer Michellee Parris, who was born in Paris and raised in St. Maarten/ St. Martin. The singer shared her goals and expectations for the upcoming year, particularly regarding the jazz and wine night, with the Out N About.

Before telling us more about herself, the soul, R&B and jazz singer, took some time to thank Connis Vanterpool for his continuous support and encouragement over the years.

Over the past years, Michellee has developed and promoted herself in the music industry, both locally and internationally, as a singer and songwriter. She has performed at some of the island’s hottest venues, such as Roxxy Beach, Indigo Beach Restaurant and Nowhere Special, and on international and regional stages in France, St. Barths, St. Kitts and Nevis.

This year, her primary focus has been on advancing her musical techniques in the Jazz, Soul and R&B genres. “Eventually, I hope to incorporate key elements of these genres into my own unique musical style and compositions, with the hope that it will enable me to effectively communicate my authentic personality and innermost artistic expressions through my music. I believe this unique sound will resonate with a diverse listening audience and provide them with an unforgettable listening experience,” she shared.

Michellee is thrilled to be performing this Saturday: “I believe it presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase my talent and connect with music enthusiasts who appreciate the soulful and timeless nature of Soul R&B and Jazz.”

The singer explained that she has been working diligently on her vocal technique and stage presence in preparation for the event: “I am confident that my performance will captivate the audience and create a memorable and enjoyable experience for all in attendance.”

Besides the upcoming event, Michellee will focus on promoting her new single, Thinking about You, which she will also perform this Saturday. She will also continue to pursue performance opportunities – so keep an eye for any upcoming shows with the lovely singer, who says that her goal is to reach as many people as possible with her music.

“I believe in the power of music to touch hearts and evoke emotions, and I am determined to make a significant impact here in my home island,” Michellee concludes.
