Animal Defenders St. Maarten to host Lighted Christmas Doggie Walk in Dec

Event dedicated to beloved community dog, “Fang”

The St. Maarten holiday season is set to shine a little brighter this year as Animal Defenders St. Maarten presents its Annual Christmas Doggie Walk, now debuting as a special lighted evening edition. The event takes place Sunday, December 7, beginning at 6:00pm at Walter Plantz Square and concluding at Taloula Mango’s. Registration opens at 5:30pm on the beach side of Walter Plantz Square.

This year’s walk holds deep emotional significance as it is lovingly dedicated to Fang – a cherished dog that recently passed away and left a lasting imprint on the community. Fang appears at the heart of this year’s event photo collage, representing the joy, resilience, and companionship the walk embodies.

Supported by a team of approximately 40 volunteers, Animal Defenders St. Maarten continues its mission to foster compassion for animals through island-wide feeding programs, spay and neuter initiatives, medical assistance, education and adoptions. The Christmas Doggie Walk remains one of the foundation’s most anticipated traditions, and this inaugural lighted edition is expected to draw an exceptionally large crowd.

Participants and their pups are encouraged to dress in festive lights, transforming the Boardwalk into a glowing, colourful procession of holiday cheer. A local drum band will keep spirits high, while entertainer Suppa Kid serves as the evening’s MC. A $5 donation per person will support the foundation’s ongoing animal welfare work.

The festivities will also include a lively Costume Competition, featuring prizes for Best Dressed Dog and Best Dressed Duo (dog and owner). Several doggie prizes have been contributed in loving memory of Fang. Attendees can also take part in an extensive raffle, offering rewards such as weekend hotel stays, restaurant vouchers, fitness and spa sessions, pet services, and more. Raffle tickets are available in advance for $5 each or 5 for $20. Promotional support for the event comes from local media partners including Island 92 Radio Station and The Daily Herald.

Organizers encourage everyone to arrive early, light up safely, and join in an evening of holiday magic, community spirit, and heartfelt tribute to Fang, whose legacy continues to inspire kindness and care for animals across the island.
