Sign, Sign everywhere a sign: Around the Tracks with Coach Tom

In 1970 the Five Man Electrical Band released a song called Signs. The song starts sign, sign everywhere a sign.

Signs are a fact of life. They help travellers find places. They mark businesses, advertise products and even give health advice. Signs are a big part of our lives and travel. You should consider putting signs Around your Tracks on the railroad layout.

These days there are a big selection of model signs. You can get a simple sign printed on post card material with a plastic frame for under two dollars. For five dollars you can get a refill pack of 15 more signs. You can switch the sign every time the train completes a loop.

With access to a colour printer you can design and print your own signs. You can advertise the name of your railroad or anything else that interests you. You could even print a birthday wish to spouse or friend when the come to admire your layout.

But wait there is more. Much more.

For $18 US dollars you can get a lighted frame for your billboards….

And the $40 you can purchase a neon flashing sign. Some hawk beer. Others travel destinations but there is a choice.

Consider adding a few signs to your layout…. But do not over due it.

The song Sign was written by Les Emmerson. The song describes a road trip on Route 66 in California.

Emmerson noticed all the sings obscured the beautiful scenery.

All he could say was “Who is allowed to put up signs that interfere with nature, and who gets to make the rules that appear on them?”

So put a few signs on the layout but do not clutter the area and hide the trains as they go Around the Tracks.
