Curaçao team wins and St. Maarten shines too!
The Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) is super excited to share the results of this year’s Big Live Nature Quiz, the Kids Edition! And guess what? More kids than ever before signed up to play! This year’s theme was Marine Habitats, which means all the awesome places underwater where ocean creatures live, such as coral reefs, seagrass beds, and even the deep sea. Kids from all six Dutch Caribbean islands got to learn cool facts about nature while having tons of fun.
A record-breaking quiz
More than 850 students from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten joined this big nature challenge. Every year, even more schools take part, making it one of the region’s biggest and most exciting nature events for kids.
And the champions are as follows:
The 2025 winners are “Eco Detectives Curacao” from the Curaçao American Preparatory School!
They impressed everyone with their amazing knowledge about coral reefs, bays, lagoons, and how these places keep young sea animals safe. Their prize? A super fun sailing and snorkelling adventure with their teacher, just the perfect way to explore the ocean for real!
Local winners from each island
Each island also had its own winning team:
- Aruba: Tortuga (St. Annaschool)
- Bonaire: Sea Lions (IKC Kristu Bon Wardador)
- Curaçao: Eco Detectives Curaçao (Curaçao American Preparatory School)
- Saba: Intelligent Girls (Sacred Heart School)
- St. Eustatius: Blue Beads (Governor de Graaff School)
- St. Maarten: The Science Children St. Maarten (Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School)
All local winners will receive special Big Live Nature Quiz rashguards – perfect for kids who love the ocean!
Great job, everyone!
DCNA sends a big THANK YOU to all the teams and teachers who took part. Your excitement, teamwork, and love for nature help protect our islands’ beautiful underwater world.
Learning about the sea
The quiz questions came from BioNews Kids, DCNA’s own nature magazine for children. It teaches all about marine habitats and why they’re important. The booklet is available in English, Dutch, Papiamentu, and Papiamento, so kids across the islands can enjoy learning in their own language.
Working together for nature
The Big Live Nature Quiz is possible, thanks to teamwork among all six islands and DCNA’s partners, including the Nature Foundation Sint Maarten. With help from schools, local TV, and support from the Dutch National Postcode Lottery, this year’s quiz reached more kids than ever before.
