While we need to learn the Dutch language, it is sometimes hard because we don’t really hear Dutch spoken around us on a regular basis. Having fun books or looking at movies in other languages is a nice way to make learning any language fun and feel relevant.
That’s why The Kids Herald was delighted to see the news about the launch of the new bilingual English-Dutch edition of “Animals Around Me / Dieren om mij heen”. This is a colouring book and nature journal featuring 41 animals native to the island. That’s a great way to have some interactive fun while learning new words, as well as learning about local animals that we can see all around us.
The book was first published in English and French, and the organisation behind the project, Les Fruits de Mer, was able to make the English-Dutch version possible with support from the Rotary Club of St. Maarten.
Some free editions have already been shared, and this will continue for years to come, as Les Fruits de Mer will be sharing more books out to primary schools all across the island. The book is also available as a free download at lesfruitsdemer.com. Teachers, youth group leaders, and potential sponsors for future English-Dutch editions are encouraged to contact Les Fruits de Mer at This email address is being protected from spambots.
