Just Ask Aggie: Oil of Oregano

Just Ask Aggie: Oil of Oregano

When some of us hear the name oregano, we think of an herb we use to season food – that’s the supermarket one.

This week’s conversation is primarily dedicated to helping unveil the many overwhelming health benefits in Oil of Oregano. This treasure-house is made up of a series of minerals including calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, potassium, copper, boron and manganese, as well as vitamins like C, A and B. This is a very versatile herb with extremely strong and effective anti-fungal properties. It is obvious that this oil is a completely natural substance derived from the wild oregano plant species.

The oil is made up of basically two compounds – carvacol and thymol. In fact, I would dare say that these two make up about 90% of the oil. The combo of these two gives a double power punch as an antioxidant, antibacterial, antivirus and anti-inflammatory. With what’s going on these days, we need to protect our bodies including our good ole’ immune system in the best natural way we possibly can.

The bad news: Antibiotic resistance is now a known fact and a growing problem for health authorities worldwide.

The good news: So far, NO drug resistance has yet developed against oil of oregano.

The benefits of Oil of Oregano are gradually garnering some attention and as one author put it: “Oil of oregano is one of the world’s finest natural medicines if it’s true oregano.”

We don’t have much time together, so let’s take a quick look at a few challenges that can benefit from Oil of Oregano:

  • Candida and parasites – significantly helps to treat both internal and external fungi or yeast regardless of where they “live”. Effective in killing many parasites including ringworm, pinworm (and that other worm).
  • Bacteria – including infections and parasites.
  • Stomach and digestive problems – helps upset stomach, digestion and even food poisoning
  • Immune system – a “fuh real” booster, it can do wonders for our immune system.
  • Nail fungus – remember I told you “she” was ANTI? Well, that includes anti-fungal.
  • Sinus and respiratory problems – primarily because Oil of Oregano is so highly volatile, it is a great recommendation for treating the respiratory system (traditionally used as a decongestant and sore throat remedy).
  • Teeth and gums – helps infected tooth and gums and reduces pain.
  • Bites and stings – has the ability to neutralize and even extract venom from insect bites.

The Oil of Oregano list of benefits is much longer, but just remember that it’s far better to take small amounts more frequently throughout the day than taking a lot all at once.
