Detox with Joga SXM!

Joga SXM has just had a wonderful detox workshop with blogger, nutritionist, fitness buff and Vegan/Vegetarian Chef Jackie. The Juiceteria is open daily until the evening; except on Sundays when it is open only in the morning.

You can try out new salads, soups and snacks every day. “If one of the salads is out, you always have two more choices,” says Jackie. Everything is packaged to take home or on the road with you; but you are also very welcome to enjoy the fresh dishes and juices in the open-air on the comfy terrace with a nice view of the lagoon.

Joga held its first of many detox workshops this past Saturday, with lots of information on exactly what a detox is and how to prepare for one and do it. Some people don’t really know what it is, many have questions about getting enough protein and so forth, as muscle loss is a “big” concern. Luckily, Jackie is a nutritionist and is herself an example of a very fit vegan. She assures all those who’d like to start a detox that they can do so and not worry about much muscle loss at all. The whole detox with Joga is five days in total and the juices and snacks have been carefully selected to keep you at your best. Participants learned to make two detox juices and three snacks. The specific detox of their focus is a five-day cleaning program.

Who is the detox for? You don’t HAVE to be into fitness and workout if you want to detox. If you smoke, eat meat, drink coffee and alcohol, etc., you may really need knowledge for preparation; and with Joga, you get the tools and nutrition you need to do this successfully.

Detox is important for vegans too. Remember that the air we breathe and the food we eat, and the way we live still present levels of some type of toxicity: preservatives, hormones, pollution and stress.

More about the detox:
Day #1: Start drinking a lot more water; no coffee or alcohol is allowed; no carbs. This day you are easing the body into the detox. You will have three meals, and every day will end with a herbal tea.
Days #2-4: You will most likely be feeling more bowel movements than usual; this is your body literally “cleaning itself out.” You consume three juices a day and supplements,. This is because the body needs support to detox; supplements necessary for this one are probiotics, psyllium husks, aloe-vera and chlorella (good for heavy metals and chemicals) and coconut water.
Day #5: You have three meals.

Who should not be doing the detox: Children under 14; pregnant women; women who are breastfeeding still; women who are menstruating; women who are not breastfeeding but are recovering from a heavy pregnancy and have had surgery such as C-section. If you are on heavy medication, it is not advised – please consult your doctor first.

The juicing part of the detox is really only three days; there is no maximum age for this detox. Light fitness, such as light yoga, stretching, massage, meditation, swimming and pampering oneself, is recommended as this sort of detox is considered a “vacation for your body.”

The first of the 5 Day Detoxes begins next Tuesday, January 26th till Saturday, January 30th. The second Detox begins on next week Friday the 29th and ends on Tuesday the 2nd of February.
