Mullet Bay Golf Course

Dear Editor,

It’s a crying shame it should have to come to that! However, it is time that the golfers take a stand. Giving your money to play and support a sub-standard golf course with incredibly poor fairways and greens, (due to no irrigation system) and dilapidated carts and equipment is disgraceful.

Why would St. Maarten allow foxes to run the hen house?

Dear Editor,

St. Maarten continues to work on what has been generally referred to as timeshare owner consumer protection legislation. Any such legislation that the island considers should be drafted by people who are familiar with timesharing from a consumer protection perspective. The St. Maarten Timeshare Association, though it is a venerable organization and one of integrity, is nonetheless an association of timeshare developers and resort owners — not individual timeshare owners, who are consumers of the product offered on the island.

Status Quo

Dear Editor,

Another political year comes to an end in Great Bay, and the biggest losers are our people. We would hope that during the meeting closing off the parliamentary year, the fraction leaders can point to something however insignificant they have done to improve the lives of our people. We know for instance that they have not yet dealt with the abuse of the short- term contract. We know that unemployment is out of control and among the youth the word employ does not exist.

Important that we do not allow public debt to grow

Dear Editor,

Recently I was in a meeting where it was argued by an influential Sint Maartener, very forcefully that the limitation by the CFT to allow Sint Maarten to create a deficit and to prevent greater public borrowing was an unfair and repressive act by the Kingdom government.

Attempts to tarnish our good name regrettable

Dear Editor,

The management and board of Sint Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA) have taken note of Leo Bakx’s letter of complaint. His expression of discontent and attempts to tarnish the good name of STENAPA is regrettable. When we first agreed to collaborate with Bakx in 2013, our organization did so in full confidence
