POINTE BLANCHE--A male inmate at the Pointe Blanche prison was injured when he was punched in the face by another inmate mid-morning on Friday.
Prison Director Edward Rohan told The Daily Herald the injured inmate had been helping another inmate share out ice when he was punched suddenly in the face. After being punched the inmate fell to the ground, hitting his face against a metal bar at the prison in the process.
The inmate injured his head and had to be rushed to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for medical attention after the incident occurred. Rohan said the inmate had been treated and stabilised at SMMC and then returned to the prison Friday afternoon.
The inmate who punched the injured inmate will be placed in solitary confinement for about two weeks and will not be allowed any visits or canteen time during this period.
