Fire damages wooden house in Defiance area

DEFIANCE--A fire of unknown origin damaged a wooden house next to the car wash in Defiance mid-afternoon Saturday.

No one was at home at the time of the blaze and it could not be ascertained how many occupants were affected.

Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police press release on Sunday that the Police, Fire and Ambulance Departments responded to the fire around 1:45pm Saturday, and began to put out the fire. Henson said a lot of smoke was emanating from the wooden structure. The electricity to the home was disconnected by personnel from utilities company GEBE, who were at the scene.

Traffic on the Sucker Garden Road, Upper Princess Quarter and Middle Region was diverted so the emergency departments could carry out their work.

Henson said the Fire Department successfully put out the fire. Once the fire was out the roads were reopened for traffic to flow freely. He said the origin of the fire was unclear.
